worlds away from the
package holiday resorts
Getting To Can Totxa, Pollenca, Mallorca…
Can Totxa is a 2.5hr international flight from most UK Airports to Palma, followed by a 40 minute drive to the villa from the airport.
Pollenca is nestled at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain chain along Mallorca’s northern coast, it is a very attractive traditional Mallorcan town which is a world away from the package holiday resorts found elsewhere on the island.
The main square is a perfect place to eat or enjoy a drink in many of the restaurants around the square. The market on Sunday is a great way to spend a morning strolling among the stalls and shops around the square.
Things To Do….
There is a tennis court within the villa grounds for guests’ use.
Puerto Pollenca has an excellent beach, yacht club and marina, and an attractive main square and promenades. It is also one of the island’s best locations for enjoying water-based sports: Sailing, dinghy sailing, kite surfing ,windsurfing, diving and sea kayaking are all available to those looking for something to do whilst on holiday.
Alternatively if you enjoy the sea you can rent a boat and take a picnic to one of the many coves in the bay. A host of other activities are also available including bicycle hire, horse riding and trekking.
It is also possible to play a round of golf at one of the many courses on the island.
Places to See….
Visit the Puig de Maria
Puig de Maria is the hill on the outskirts of Pollenca with a monastery on top. Its first origins reach back to 1348. Main parts of the complex have been built in the 15th century. After 1564, it was only sporadically used as monastery, while the church had been maintained during all the centuries as a pilgrim church.
The last nuns left the convent in 1988. Since then, it is used as a hostel. Its location high over the town of Pollença and the old, venerable but simple buildings together with the view on the coastline, the Serra de Tramuntana and the wide plane give quite a mystical atmosphere.
Port de Pollenca
6km, 10 minutes from Can Totxa, this resort has everything – wonderful scenery, beautiful sandy beaches and a laid-back friendly atmosphere. The sheltered horseshoe shaped bay is set against the stunning backdrop of the Tramuntana mountain range. No wonder it remains a favourite with families and couples who return time and time again.
Originally a fishing village Puerto Pollensa retains the time old tradition of the evening paseo or stroll. On warm, balmy evenings everyone wanders up and down between the marina where the yachts beach and port every 10 minutes,
The Calvario Steps: Climb the 365 steps from the church in town to the church on the hill to enjoy the beautiful view. The Good Friday procession from the church at the top of the hill to the church in town is an amazing event not to be missed.
If you fancy taking a drive out, just under an hour away is Palma, the economic and cultural hub of Majorca. A delightful base for exploring the island’s many gold and white beaches.
A former Moorish casbah, or walled city, Palma’s Old Town is an appealing maze of narrow streets that are a delight to explore on foot.
Hop on the Soller Railway for a 17-mile scenic trip, visit 14th-century Bellver Castle and the museum of contemporary art, and check out the nightlife.
